We arrived in puerto escondido feeling very ill and very tired! Ryan, Allister and Alex were feeling the effects of undercooked mexican food, and it was no fun at all! As soon as we got into the bus station we all headed straight for the 3 pesos toilets and got our money´s worth, creating possibly the worst smell and sight ever!! Trust me!
We took a taxi, after we had relieved ourselves, to the notorious mayflower hostel that had been recommended to us! And after staying there we would definately recommend this to anyone else, it was well fun! As soon as we checked in we all hit the sack due to a combination of no sleep and feeling ill! After we had come around, Alex and Ryan decided they were in no state to go exploring, and so Ben and Allister headed off towards the beach, a 2 minute walk from the hostel! This beach was cool for surfing , chilling and sunbathing!
In the evening, even though some of us still felt really groggy, we thought it would be a good idea to mix with the other people in the hostel. After some Sol Brava 6% loopy juice (bens fave) we all headed off to Babylon bar, although we tagged along haha. As soon as we got there we could sense there was a really chilled out vibe about the place. It was like a surf bar just full of games and drinking! After babylon, the standard proceedure was to head on down to Barfly, which was more of a club and was where we ended our nights/early mornings! On the last night there, the DJ played some of our favourite tunes which was proper ace as we had been craving for some good music. We almost ate our own heads from the sound of the crappy spanish music that had been repeated over and over in our hostel lol.
Puerto is a really cool place and is full of backpackers and travellers, but not too many. It was what we were all looking for really after not settling down anywhere and constantly travelling from one place to another without sleep! We found some really nice restaraunts and bars that were proper cheap yet classy. For a decent Italian/mexican meal with a few drinks it would cost us no more than a fiver each!! not bad huh?!
On our final day in puerto we all headed down to the beach which was closest to our hostel. There were loads of beaches surrounding the resort and our favourite was just a little out of the way. We named it ´the one with the stairs` cause nobody could ever remember or pronounce the name of it haha. But back at the beach closest to the hostel, we were just kicking back and soaking up the sun before our ride to San Cristobal. We bumped into a few lads from our hostel who were having a kick around with a football and so we decided to join in. It would then turn into a MASSIVE game which was totally insane! It was Mexico Vs rest of the world ( us and our hostel pals) lol. It has to be said that the partnership of Jackson and Brisk was lethal, breaking the deadlock only minutes into the game. Sadly, we didn´t have the stamina to show them how to play the English way and after about half an hour we were on our arses...a combination of sand, heat and too much beer the night before!lol. This was probably our fondest memory of the sweet experience we had in puerto, apart from al nearly breaking his toe lol.
We don´t really think we can do puerto escondido any justice in a blog as it´s far too crazy to explain all that went on in words. Hopefull when we manage to get the pics up (one day) haha, you´ll have a better understanding of the place! It was proper ace and we´d recommend it to all travellers and even just people who want a chilled out holiday! Adios Amigos x
