After visiting the Japanese Peruvian Association Friday morning, we headed to Chinatown for lunch. We were told to watch our bags closely, stay together in a tight group and move quickly as it was mid-day and the streets were packed out. The area was known for tourists and for pickpocketing. Similar to the Chinatown in Chicago, we were walking what appeared to be average city streets, and then all of a sudden there was the entrance to Chinatown with a big arch. It was like a whole different world on the other side.
We entered the restaurant for lunch. The entire entryway was banked by 2 display cases of Chinese-Peruvian desserts. Peruvian Chinese food is called Chifa. We were shown to our table and were told we would eat family style. We pre-ordered 5 different dishes to be shared among the entire group. Paco and his wife joined us - she is Asian. The Japanese board member who came to the Japanese-Peruvian Association with us joined us for lunch as well - and sat next to Ka'ohe. They developed quite an affinity for each other. He was adorable. Roscio and Donato also joined us which was such a nice treat.
The food was great and plentiful. The company was lovely. I was still feeling a bit sick so it was foggy to me, and I remember rushing to the bathroom after eating with a queasy tummy. After lunch wrapped up we hustled through the streets (3) of Chinatown on our way back to the bus. We saw a large alpaca ready to take photos with people and some street performers. I think many would have loved to spend more time there, but Friday was our last day together and we were trying to cram everything in. We boarded the bus and headed to the plaza to meet with our official, double decker bus city tour.
