For dinner Tuesday night we went to a restaurant in an outdoor mall on the ocean. It was gorgeous. We had a causa - potato, filling, potato sandwich, and salted lamb - lomo saltado. I sat next to Tim, Nehemiah and Ka'ohe and learned that Tim grew up really rough without a father figure and worked really hard to make it out of the hood. Nehemiah was home schooled and ended up playing college ball at Arkansas. Ka'ohe grew up in Hawaii and is of Japanese and Chinese decent.
After dinner we walked back to the hotel and walked past a famous park. The park is a normal city park with trees and benches, etc. What makes the park unique, is that the trees are filled with stray cats. Hundreds of them. People come and feed them and offer them water, so they live there.
I learned about Carola and her fiancé and daughter, and how they are trying to conceive again. I learned about Anndrea and how she is thinking about proposing to her girlfriend. I learned about Tim's baby mom and the great work he does with his highschool programs and visiting youth in prison after his long work day. I learned that in Uruguay, if you don't exercise your right to vote as a citizen, then you lose your citizenship. So people with dual citizenship will fly home for every election just to secure their citizenship.
