We are moving around a fair bit at the moment with only a month before we head to New Zealand. We are hoping to get to as many places in NSW before we head into Victoria.
Dubbo was a fantastic stop! we camped by the river about 10 kilometres north of Dubbo near the town of Brocklehurst. It was a great stop with many other travellers camping here too. We met up with a lady who had bought a 2 day pass to the Dubbo safari zoo but could only go 1 day. Her friend also only went for the one day so they gave us their 2nd day pass and as a bonus a ticket to feed the giraffes. We were thrilled to get their tickets and there are some fabulous photos of our zoo experience. We saw not only Australian animals like koalas but rhinos, sumatran tigers, elephants, hippos and zebras.
We travelled south from Dubbo to Parkes to see the telescopic dish (see above). This was the dish that was in the movie of the same name with Sam Neil. The dish is still active and tracks the heavens for stars and planets. They had an amazing photographic gallery of photos taken of space phenomena and we were amazed to see one taken at London Bridge in Sandstone. We have included a photo of the photo in the album......please excuse the flash throwback.
We had been told about a fantastic camping spot (free of course) by the river in Forbes. What a fabulous spot and town. We sat by the river and acknowledged the many walkers that use the path around the river; we also saw the dragon boat practising up and down the river. All the members are over 50 and they compete across the country - one member even represented Australia in the dragon boat races. The bowling club is just on the other side of the river too so we wandered over for a drink on Friday afternoon. Wow!!!! the cheapest beer around - $3 for a 10oz pot. We watched the Friday night social bowlers from our
This is a must-see spot!
