First to explain the photograph. Owain and Cerys came to this beach on their honeymoon and said we should try it, so we did. Basically, you rent a shovel then the sap who carried it all the way to the beach digs a big hole in the wet sand at low tide and waits for it to fill with hot water from the springs that bubble up under the sand. This is hard work. Then the lady who told him several times that it needed to be bigger and deeper gets into the warm water and luxuriates there for an hour. At regular intervals the sap with the shovel is told to dig out the sand again because it slowly fills up. Locals meanwhile wander along the beach and chuckle at these antics as would have I but I was too knackered from digging the bloody hole. Now enjoying a beer as the sun sets.
Prior to this we’d driven and then walked to Cathedral Cove, one of the prettiest beaches in NZ and very lovely first thing this morning so very few people there. Sadly P had forgotten her phone so no pics for the blog as my camera won’t upload, hence Mrs E in a puddle.
Quick word about where we camped for the night Onemana. Lovely bay and the stunning houses and gardens around it were manicured to perfection and obviously very expensive. Yet they seemed happy to allow overnight campers onto the green next to their pristine beach. Nice place.

C & O Just catching up on your blog! We had arguments about hole digging on this beach too - but so worth it! Love the pic! Haha! Xx
