Trip of a Lifetime
3/2/06
Today was another early start, we got up at 6am to leave Queenstown at 7.30am. We wereheading for Fox Glacier today where we had to be by 1pm as some of us were going hiking and some taking a heli-hike onto the glacier.
We arrived at Fox and checked into our hotel eventually after a room mix up and then went to grab some food and then headed off to theplace where we were to meet our guides. The heli-hike had been cancelled as the weather was not good enough forthe helicopter. So some people changed onto the hike. We were split into groups and I wasin a group of 12 girls. Wegot our hiking boots, spikes (crampons - lol) and waterproof jackets. We then headedby bus to the start of our hike which was near the terminal of the glacier.
We started our hike and that was exactly what it was a hike. We walked up a mountain side in the forest and at one point we were a 100m high and we had to walk across a cliff-edge, not for the faint hearted. The ironic thing was the walk back was worse as you could see the bottom. Anyway we evenually arrived at he glacier and we had to put our crampons on and then head onto the glacier. It was really beautiful up there and it felt like were only up there for such a short time. However, I think I'd rather do the heli-hike next time if I ever return. When I got back I had a quick shower as I was freezing and headed for a well deserved dinner. After dinner I conked out.

Today was another early start we left Fox at 8.15am and we were heading to Christchurch. On the way we stopped at the Jade Factory which is one of the gemsof New Zealand.
On our way to Christchurh Nikki, our tour manager, told us that our hotel did not have any hot water and we had 2 choices. The first choice was to change hotels but as we were leaving the next morning early we would have to get back to the orignial hotel very early to make the coach and the 2nd choice was to stay at the hotel and we would be given $25 for food and drinks. We decided on the $25, we could cope with a cold shower.
We arrived at Christchurch at around 3.30pm and chilled in our room for a bit. Just before we headed out for dinner Binita decided to check the water to see how cold it was and we found out we had hot water so we thought we would quickly have a hot shower, incase the water ran out. When we went for dinner we didn't tell them we had hot water and so we got our dinner free, but we found out most of the group had hot water and that we weren't supposed to be getting free food, but we weren't told so what the hell! We then went to sleep after watching a movie.
