The morning consisted of washing most of our clothes, the joys of packing light! Once everything was hung out to dry we headed out to catch the train to Fremantle. Fremantle is a small town with a fishing harbor. So on arrival we headed straight to the harbor for some lunch at one of the many seafood places. Ant ordered breaded fresh prawns while I ordered muscles and 'fresh bread' (stale sandwich roll). Despite the bread both meals were good and there was the added fun of scaring the seagulls away which tried to land on the table.
After lunch we walked to the Fremantle market (we do love a market), perused the souvenirs and homemade treats. We ended up buying some delicious rocky road with pistachios to nibble as we strolled around. After the market we went to a famous opal jewelry store where I could not resist a silver necklace with a small opal stone. I had not realised Australia has 95% of the worlds opal stones and it is their national gemstone. That Koala opal necklace I was bought back from Australia years ago as a present makes a lot of sense!
On our way back to the high street we stopped at a post office to buy a large box as we intend to post most of our souvenirs back. Mainly because they are either bulky (that Chinese chess set someone needed) or breakable in the rucksack (All those trinkets I like). So we proceed to the beach with our box and enjoyed walking along the soft sand and saw the sun begin to set. The beach was a beautiful spot and a lovely end to the day. We caught the train back and went to tackle the communal kitchen to cook our dinner.
