Sleeping in a hostel for the first time was an interesting experience, something which I would rank next to sleeping at a minimum security prison. The rooms lacked a certain friendlyness and the inmates were "interesting". However, it was fairly warm and clean therefore we treated it like the weird family member we all have and ignored its odd ways. Our first full day in Perth had us having a relaxing start to the morning after a horrible flight the previous day. We roamed the city using the Bluecat shuttle service, an excellent free bus. Free is my best friend after leaving a job and traveling on limited funds. In the city centre we managed to find a burrito food court for lunch. The city of Perth seems really small and friendly. It feels no bigger than Wycombe, but with 1.5 million people residing in it and less drunks.
After venturing out we arrived at King's park with views across the city and wonderful wild flowers. It is one of the top tourist attractions for the city and the locals seem to love it as well. The park also houses a WW1 monument and the park land used for many festivals.
Traveling back on our favourite bluecat service we stopped to grab a bite to eat at a burger joint where I was subject to one of the oddest toilet experiences of my life. Firstly its worth noting that it is common for toilets in Aus to not be in the restaurant itself, and can be located in a joint building. After being given a key I am told directions. The toilet journey takes me through some dodgey allys in to a car park with several unsigned doors. I try one and luck would have it I am in. The room resembled a dully lit horror film and on opening my toilet door I was greeted to male softcore porn and an Evian bottle of urine. Certainly not the experience I expected from a men's toilet!
