It was decided today would be a lazy day, with both of us suffering from a cold. We had our first proper line in, before heading in to town for a wander. We discovered that Kyoto station which we weere staying next too was huge, the largest I have ever seen. It had 3 malls in the station including several food courts, where we stumbled across a Subway for brunch!
While eating our lunch we were looking at a map to figure out which exit to take for Kyoto tower and a large electronics shop (for Ant). During which a lady asked in Japanese where we were going, through a lot of map pointing she worked out where we needed and offered to walk us to our exit. She patiently waited for us to finish our food before taking us, I honestly can not imagine that ever happening in the UK!
After an hour or so of walking round 2 giant electronic shops and a mall we headed off to the Higashi-Honganji temple. A large woodern structure for worship with carved and painted decor inside. There alot of these temples in Kyoto as it previously was the capital and the town was spared during the war, meaning a lot of the temples survive today. a short walk from the temple was the Shosei-en garden. A lovely zen garden hidden in a built up area, full of trees, a large pond full of fish, stone bridges and mosquitoes! After I think I counted about 8 bites on my arms and legs! Apart from that the garden was very relaxing and peaceful, considering the busy roads just outside.
On the way back we went in to Bic camera, a 7 floor electronic store with anything from cameras to washing machines. We couldn't help but go in to these stores when we saw them, the sheer scale of products available was ridiculous and i enjoyed them as much as Ant.
A short break at the hotel before going back to the station in search for dinner, this time we fancied some tempura so we found a restaurant that did Japanese noodles with tempura. It did not match up to the place in Tokyo near the Sky tree but it was still good!
