We are sad to leave Tokyo as we had a great time. After the constrants of the the last 2 weeks in China we had more of a relaxed carefree time there. The next destination on the list is Kyoto reached by bullet train. The transport network in Japan seems great and the bullet train or Shinkensen was no different. Clean, roomy, comfortable and fast.......very fast. It also resembles a space shuttle which adds to it's charms.
After a brief ride in which we covered a quarter of the main land in a stupidly 2 hours, we decided to wonder the streets to see what was near. We came across a shopping mall where we discovered a pet store where you could handle the puppies. Needless to say we would be returning there several times as it never failed to put a smile on Laura's face.
After our walk and a rummage through the electronic stores bargin bins we decided on dinner. It turns out the Kyoto train station is huge. It contains of 4 shopping malls and 11 floors. We were spoilt for choice when it came to food.
The restaurant both Laura and I chose was a freshly cooked Japanese style restaurant. After being placed in the corner and being asked to take our shoes off we were given the English menu. The only English menu in the restaurant it turns out. We followed in a German couple who were unpleased with this fact so stared and pointed at us. Luckily we were saved when water started dripping on Laura from the aircon above. Instead of turning the aircon down or moving us the waitress decided to try and mop the ceiling. Which resulted in the cover coming off and her stuck pinning it in place whilst 2 chefs came to help, leaving Laura trapped in the corner..
Thankfully she escaped and we were moved away from the evil Germans and raining ceiling.

Deborah Clements How were the Japanese to know the Germans would have wanted an English Menu - at least you were moved - good ploy using the Air con! x
