The second day of the dive course started with a couple more instructional videos then the test which Wendy and i both passed with no problems then off to the dive room to get our kit together and a break for lunch. After lunch we hopped on a longtail boat from the beach to take us to the dive boat which was moored offshore. A nice 15 minute cruise across the bay to a dive site called 'The Twins' a shallow dive down to a max of 12 meters. Before we could dive we needed to jump off the back of the boat and swim round it twice then tread water for 10 minutes. This was a problem due to wendy not being a strong swimmer so was a bit of a stuggle as there was a swell running and we both ended up drinking too much sea water on the way round. Our instructor was very good though and hopped in the water to help wendy with the treading water. When we had both completed this it was back onto the boat to get all the gear on. I jumped in but wendy's nerves were taking over and took some encouragement from Alex (The dive master) to get into the water. Wendy manged to dive down to about 6 meters with Alex but was not feeling comfortable and was not enjoying it so decided to call it a day. Alex has said that if we stay here for a while wendy can go back to see him and try again if she wants. Luckily i loved it and we headed off for the next dive site called White Rock. Again only 12 meters but plenty of fish around and the whale shark was spotted here 2 days ago.... not to be seen by me though! After the two dives we headed back to dry land for some food and an early night as it's a 7am departure for the last 2 dives in the morning. We dived on 2 sites down to 18 meters. the first called Chumphon Rock - Groupers and Trigger Fish were the biggest fish but also moray eels and all sorts of other fish were around, swimming through shouls of fish was brilliant! The next site was Green Rock where we had to do some basic underwater navigation with a compass, mask removal and replacement and a simulated out of air and using your buddy's spare regulator and a slow ascent to the surface. All completed and soo much fun and I am now PADI open water qualified so can dive to 18meters! The only thing i have to decide now is 'do i do my advanced course here or in Indonesia? it's a hard life!
