We woke up and were very excited that our boat was due to dock in Manaus
today. The lunch was rubbish and I was starving pretty much all day.
Finally the boat arrived in port at about 5pm and we joined the guys we
had met on the boat to try and find a hostel. Suddenly it hit us that
the price of everything is super high in Brazil and because manaus is
in the middle of the jungle it is double anywhere else. With my budget
seriously running low I started to worry slightly that I would not be
able to afford the net 10 days. We got a tai from the boat to what was
supposedly the cheapest hostel but turned out to be a hotel that
charged 10 pounds a night. Now that sounds pretty cheap but when you
are quickly running out of money and are used to paying 2 pounds a
night it was crazy money. We decided to stay one night and check out
other places in the morning. That evening we went out to this little
restaurant for dinner (the one where the lady looked like a toad) and
then just as mi
ke and I decided to call it a night, this random dude came in and
offered to take us to this bar just round the corner. So 8 of us cram
into his car and the bar turns out to be half an hour away and you have
to pay to get in. Not quite what we were wanting but hey. It was
actually a brewery and so we drank too much beer and watched the locals
dance the night away. The brazillian girls are amazing dancers and so
when I finally get dragged up to dance it was slightly embarrasing!!
