We arrived in Sao Paulo early on saturday morning and were suddenly shocked into realising that people really didnt speak much english!! We really wish we had spent more time learning some before we set off. Anyway, we sat in Sao Paulo airport for a few hours getting used to how utterly slow and useless people can be in South America at getting things to run on time. Mike's plane took off half an hour late and it was so funny to see him go off alone dreading the next few hours on the plane. I ended up on a delayed plane and had to wait around for a couple of hours. When the plane finally arrived, not only did it stop on route at some strange destination which it wasnt supposed to, it also had massive problems landing. We were just coming into Buenos Aires when the plane only a metre off the ground had to take off again. The announcement which followed was in spanish and people were not very happy but hey an hour later we finally managed to land safely so I never will know what happened.
Mike had ben in the airport all alone for a good 5 hrs and couldnt quite work out why everything was so expensive until it finally dawned on him that the currency wasnt in dollars but pesos! He also tried to book us into a hostel and found that there wer none available in the entire city. Luckily a lovely young man helped him sort out a hotel (which was uuuber expensive} so that when I arrived we at least had somewher to go to.
I know we both thought this place would be cheap but it really isnt and so we took an expensive taxi to our hotel and they took us to the wrong place but at least we didnt have to pay so much for the room.
It was an interesting start to the holiday and all we hoped was that things would get that little bit easier.......we were so wrong!
