Last few days in Buenos Aires
The past few weeks have flewn by. We've been busy catching some great gigs and been to a few football games too. I've also tried a completely new extreme sport: cycling in the traffic of Buenos Aires. I have to say that hang-gliding is a piece of cake compared to my cycling experience. It was so scary to cycle among the crazy argentinan drivers, who don't seem to know what a lane is and just speed away with their battered cars. (Even crossing the road safely, at zebra crossing, seems to be a challenge here.)
We went to see "30 seconds to Mars" the band of the gorgeus, 90's teen idol, Jared Leto. It's not the kind of music I typically like, but I really enjoyed the concert. We also went to see Travis and The Killers and their show was great!
Football matches have been good fun as well, even though nothing compares to the craziness that goes on during brazilian football.. I've seen games of the most famous teams, Boca and River, but unfortunatley missed them playing against each other.
One night we went to the Hipodromo. It was fun, even we were the only ones under 50 and the only girls. I'm still a bit annoyed that I didn't listen to my gut feeling and put a bet on the wrong horse.. oh, all the money I could've won:(
Saara arrived last sunday (poor girl had to take 4 flights from New Zeland to get here!) and it was great to see each other again, especially since it's been so long.. I finished work yesterday, so now I can enjoy properly my last week in Buenos Aires :)
This is the last time I'll write from here. I'm sad to leave this amazing city and my friends here, who knows when we'll see each other next.. But at the same time I'm very very excited to continue my trip through South America. On friday we're taking a nightbus to Mendoza (yep, I'm also thrilled to get back on the bus, can't wait for the first class seats, dinner and all...) Nanna will be joining me and Saara for our weekend of wine tasting in Argentinas winecapital. In the Mendoza region they produce 70% of all the Argentinan wine. We're all looking forward to visiting the vinyards and tasting some fine Argenitinan Malbec.
After our wine filled weekend our plans are still pretty hazy. There are so many places we want to see and only a month to do so. So next time you hear from me, we're probably travelling around somewhere in Bolivia or Chile.
