I love BA!!
I've been here almost a month now, time flies.. I'm always pretty busy in Finland, but I seem to be running from place to place here as well. Normally I get up before ten, have breakfast while watching some re-runs of Dawsons Creek:) and then head to work. From work I go straight to my Spanish classes that last a few hours and then I head home. The walk isn't that long, but it always takes me ages because I keep stopping on the way, I might pop in a shop, an internet cafe or an ice cream bar etc. (The ice-cream here is the best in the world!) Then by the time I get home, I'm already in a rush, having to get ready for a night out, dinner and drinks with friends.. Normally we go to a restaurant around nine, have a nice long dinner and after that head to a bar for a drink or two. So that's an average weeknight, weekends are another story altogether, so I'll tell about them in my next blog :)
So what's not to love about Buenos Aires!! There are so many great things here, but I guess nowhere's perfect and there's also things that annoy me.. Luckily there's only three things that I hate:
First - the subway! It's so crammed and slow and HOT, well just simply awful. But I have to say that finnish men have a lot to learn, here almost always there is some guy offering you a seat (but because the carriage is SO full, it'd be more hassle pushing my way through to the seat than standing the few stops..) The good thing is that I don't need it that much, I can walk to work, or at least I always walk home from work. It's only a 40 minute walk and most part of it is in the pleasant Recoleta neighborhood.
Second - people not cleaning up after the dogs!! Here you can't just wonder around windowshopping or taking in the beautiful architecture, because you have to keep your eyes constantly one the street, if you want to avoid any uncomfortable surprises..
Third - the supermarkets, or more specificly the queues!!! Once I went in to get a few bits and bobs and I ended up queing for 25 minutes. It seems as if you were watching a slow motion film when you see the "efficent" staff work. Supermarkets aren't all bad though.. they have this great thing called home delivery, so you can shop as much as you want, pay and then go home and wait a while and all your shopping is delivered to your appartement. That's what me and Nanna did last week and at least by the looks of our trolley, we seemed to have stocked up for the rest of my stay..
I've finally added more pictures on my facebook and also the ones from when I went hang-gliding. That is by far the coolest thing I've done here and I could not have picked a better location for it than Rio.. It was so amazing flying there, I felt like a bird. Apart from the beginning, when you have to run and jump off a cliff, it wasn't at all scary. I highly recommend! :)
