Rainy days in BA
It's been raining a lot lately and nobody warned me about it before I came over!!! I just thought that it'd always be nice and sunny, same way as everyone here think's it's cold and dark always in Finland. And when it rains here, it REALLY rains. It's not just a small drizzle, it's a proper thunderstorm and it get's a bit scary sometimes.. One day I reckon it rained over 12h non-stop!
Other than the rain, life is great here. I'm really enjoying my job. The staff at the hostel are all Argentinians, so it's really good for me cos I get to speak spanish. (Most of my freetime we hang out with Nanna and Maria and ofcourse speak finnish) The clients=backpackers are all really friendly and the atmosphere is really nice and relaxed. My job includes chekcing in/out the passangers and helping them if they have any questions. Main part of my day we're just chatting, which suits me perfectly!
It's funny to hear what people know about Finland and some people haven't even got a clue where it is. One guy knew that we have on of the highest suicide rate, other's think that it's below zero all the time, one Swede was telling everyone at the hostel how the finnish people are like Argentinans because "everyone" dances tango (I dare to disagree, I think that the finnish and Argentinan tango are quite different).
Even though the Finns aren't on the Argentinans "favourite people list" because Botnias factory in Uruguay, I'd still say we have a pretty good reputation here. Taxi drivers tend to get a bit "aggresive" sometimes about the factory issues, so when I'm taking taxis I prefer to say I'm from Sweden (or occasionally from Switzerland). Normally everyone is really interested in you when you tell that you're from Finland (and I'm not only talking about the sleazy men). Many say that they would love to visit Finland and one girl said she'd want to move to there, because she read somewhere that Finland is the least corrupted country in the world.
Going out for a meal tonight and hopefully to bar with some live music afterwards. Have to go home and get ready, so we can be off to spread the good reputation of the Finns with Nanna and Maria :)
ps. Forget what I said about my finnish mobile, it's not working here since I got a new sim.
