Bolivia here we come!
I'm sitting in an internet cafe in rainy Salta (a city in north Argentina), it's been baking hot here for the past few days and today we had planned a relaxed day by the pool but then it started raining.. Oh well, we better get used to the cold weather now, since we our heading up to the mountains next. And we can't complain because we've been really lucky with the weather on our trip so far.
Mendoza was great. The city was beautiful and so calm after hectic Buenos Aires. There was an earthquake (back in 1861) and to minimize damage in case there would ever be another one, they rebuilt the city with really wide avenues and big plazas. We did LOTS of wine tasting, visited many vinyards and spent a lazy sunday at our hostel, sunbathing, enjoying the pool and having a nice bbq, with our new irish friends (who else..) After Mendoza Nanna had to return all alone to our "big" appartement in BA, I hope she won't get lost now there's all tha extra space.. well I'm sure she'll have some guests staying there. After saying bye to Nanna, me and Saara took the nightbus to Salta, a plesant 16 hour drive..
Salta is nice, we've been walking around the city and chilling. Yesterday we did a day trip to Cafayte, famous for it's wine. We visited 3 winerys and also a goat farm where the produce "the famous Cafayte goat cheese". On the way there, the sceney is amazing and there's these stunning sandstone landforms. Even me and Saara were pretty impressed by them and took a few photos, we got a bit irritated with a lady who wanted to stop and take a picture of EVERY SINGLE rock! So it took us about 4 hours to drive 180km.
Tonight we're catching yet another nightbus and this time we're heading to Bolivia. One friend referred to Bolivia as diarrhea heaven so I'm a bit worried how my stomach will handle it. Our plan is to do a four day trip to Salar de Uyuni, the world's largest saltflats and visit Potosi, the highest city in the world (4060m). I'm really excited about going to Bolivia, I'm sure it's a really interesting country but it's also a very poor country, where you have to be supercareful with your belongings. So keep your fingers crossed that we won't get robbed on our first day (or actually any other day either..)
