Mayday was celebrated by Pippa, Anouk and I by moving house. Pippa had been in Peckham for exactly 1 year. It was sad leaving Loic's place but as Pippa and I have spent the best part of the last 2 years apart we really wanted our own place with our own things.
There is a photo album which I will add to as more of our stuff arrives in the next few weeks out of storage so these first photos are a bit bare.
Herne Hill is only a few suburbs further west than Peckham on a different train line but still very close to central London. We can get into town in 15 mins. It is a real London village feel with a closed off cafe street and lots of restaurants, for Canberra people it is like a smaller version of d*** on for variety but lots of Caribbean and Mediterranean feel.
Across the road from the house is a huge park called Brockwell Park which has football (soccer) fields, tennis courts, cycle paths, cafe, pool and Lido (fitness centre). Even though our rent is a little higher we have landed on our feet here. Also we can walk to everything which we use to drive to so there is a savings on petrol.
The house is a converted Coach House on a converted Manor (Westmoreland Lodge). The down stairs is a lounge/eat in kitchen and upstairs is a big loft bedroom and bathroom. It is small on an Australian scale, but this is London and everything is smaller, but we have our own little garden at the back for Anouk and off street parking. These are things you are happy to pay for as they are rare this close to the centre of London.
On other positive notes, Pippa got an Ecology job. She is relocating reptiles at the M25 widening at Junction 29. It is field work and means no more disgusting hospital library.
For me my registration continues to move at a snails pace but I have a call back interview this Thursday for a 'Flight Nurse' job. This is escorting sick and injured travels back to the UK on their insurance. It would be very exciting and allow me the occasional trip to Australia. But given there have been a few disappointments over the last few years I am not going to get too excited yet. but fingers crossed eh!!
On an English front I did watch the royal wedding on TV, really it was hard not too. I did not join the crowds in London, but I admit is was tempting just for the spectacle of it all. Some Australian friends here, ANU footballers in fact...Amy.....did wear 'I love you harry' T-shirts and sleep on the street overnight. Pippa and I enjoyed the run of public holidays leading to several long weekends in a row and there is another at the end of May.
If the job comes through Pippa and I may go to Calais for a day to celebrate. It would be good to go to Europe at least once during the summer. But more importantly we are getting all our stuff out of storage in May. Whoo Hooo.
Getting late, early start in the morning and do need to move boxes away from the bed.
Stay well all
