Tina Christ Hey great to hear about your travels, I am very jealous now, Glad your aniversary was special. It's a lot different to ours which although was really really lovely with beautiful food and drinks and walks along the beach, staying in Wollongong just doesn't have the same appeal as Paris. Mum My memory of Oestend in 1960 was a YHA serving pureed spinich. This looked like the green sludge which covered the moat around the YHA, so NOBODY ate the pureed spinich

katharine I wish you'd told me you were going there, Dad and I went for a few days in Bruges, and I could have given you loads of maps! We hired bicycles and cycled out of Bruges for 22 miles, to Damme (I think!) I will check in my diary, and show you the photos when we next meet. Also, there are some excellent museums in Bruges, and my favourite Michaelangelo sculpture in the Cathedral. It is of the Madonna and Child. Keep blogging! love Mum

Katharine Your weekend in Marlborough was fun, and I wish I had been there to tell you other things! Dad, (Pippi) was born in Savernake, and went to Kingsbury Hill for the first couple of years of his life, and then Ursula and he shared a house with another young Mum and son till the end of the war. Both your grandfathers, all the Wynne Willsons, Wingfield Digbys and 6 generations of Simsons went to Marlborough College. Your great uncle Basil WW was Master there (headmaster!) before being made Bishop of Bath & Wells. Uncle Christopher was art master, which was a pretty good cheeck as he had not been taught officially! (But he had paintings accepted by the Royal Academy) The Uffington White horse was 'discovered' by Uncle Christopher when he noticed white markings after the plough. They scoured them out of the chalk with people standing on the ground yelling (I imagine!) 'left a bit, right a bit, down up etc!' I gather they built the cathedrals by building scaffolding out of wood as they went along, heightening it as they got higher. Apparently you can still see it in the spire in Salisbury, but I have not got the nerve to go up there! Our daily lived in Avebury and had a stone in her garden! Enough, I can tell you more later! Tina wow, all jokes aside, I'm impressed with the beach, my limited understanding of english beaches was that they are made up of shells, but his actually looked like nice sand. Glad you're getting some nice weather, we are just getting drowned and drowned some more, cheers Tina
