Hello! I think the last post was on tuesday of last week so i shall update you on my adventures since then!
On wednesday i was back on casualty and outpatients, which was eventful! That evening we went to watch the football against slovenia which was amazing as we had the USA game on the screen next to it and just as our final whistle went and all the engalnd fans erupted, the USA scored and they all erupted so this whole bar was just carzy with football fans! Amazing atmosphere!
Thursday there was no placement so i did less interesting things like washing and singing very loud! I also got some african trousers made which are very cool but probably won't be worn out the house in england! We had the traditional thursday night BBQ and then headed to Via Via where we saw all the doctors and the pharmasist from the hospital which was really fun as that would never happen in the UK!
On friday i went ot the Crimal Tribunal for Rwanda which was quite interesting. It has been going on for 16 years so i think i am going to try and find out more about what happend as i got a bit lost as i am so culturally unaware! We then went out for lunch which was really nice as the food in resturants here is pretty super!
Saturday was a really good day as we went to the waterfalls at marangu on the slopes of kilimanjaro (one fo the starting points for the climb up kili). We left at 6am with 18 of us on a rented dala dala (the local buses) which was ment for about 8 people i think so it was an interesting ride! It was also pouring with rain which didn't help! It took 2 hours to get there and we went to this museum where we went in this little hut which was very dark and we walked in and there was a cow waiting for us which was a surprise! We then walked the hour to the first waterfall which was mostly down hill (which absolutly destroyed my legs, am still not walking well!). It was not that big but very beautiful until the view was somewhat spoilt by this man turing up, getting naked and offering to jump off it gfor us in return for money. We said he could jump if he wanted to but we had no money to give him. He jumped anyway which was really funny and a bit weird! On the way to the second waterfall we stopped by this bush where our guide tole us that this is where they bring the dead people and a small snail brings them back to life. Hmmmmm! Our guide also seem to try and impress us with his knowladge of english swear words, which horrified even us at the ones he came out with! The second waterfall was alot bigger and we all splashed about in it, although jasmine jess and laura are now convinced they have a parasite in them! Then it was lunch time and we had chicken and chips at the most expensive resturant in marangu...5000TSH (about 2.50 pounds!) It was a bit raw though! Just chilled out at a local cafe for the evening and then came home :-)
Yesterday we, as did the whole of england, watched the abismal attemped by the engalnd team to get into the quarters and watched the abismal attempt by the referee to be 'fair'. Not a great evening as the whole of the bar seemed to be supporting the germans so we were a significant minority!
Well, i think that is enough from me! This week is just placement and then at the weekend hopefull going to a local coffee plantation and doing some traditional painting!
Hope everyone is well :-)
