Jambo!
Sooo, where to start!
Yesterday was our first day in the hospitals, and it is just mindblowing. The sanitation and the condition of the wards is just so different. At the moment i am on obstetrics and that is pretty crazy! About 10 women all lying naked in beds all giving birth in front of each other and me stood in the middle catching babies! No pain relief and you are lucky if you hear a peep out of any of them, puts us brits to shame. However, due to the lack of electronic monitering and general equitment, alot of the babies are born needing rescusutation, which would be down to me and it has been pretty shocking. Trying to revive a blue baby with no oxygen takes alot of improvisation and i have learnt alot from the nurses and doctors here. I have also been taught how to cannulate and perform vaginal examinations so i am learning. At one point we had 5 babies in one cot, all needing monitering (subjective, not mechanical). But this is africa after all!
Also, the mothers straight after giving birth, get up, dressed and out. Amazing.
For the sake of grumps, i will not go into any more details!
For all the food lovers (or those just interested) we have a mixture of tanzanian food and english food for tea so a nice variety. Alos found some cute cafes in town (ones assured not to give us multiple trips to the toilet!
All the staff at work the world have made this trip to be honest and are intent on us being fluent in ksahilli by the time we leave!
Going to the orphanage on friday and safari next weekend....super exciting.
I have uploaded pictures to facebook as it is too slow on here, just message me if have any problems with them.
Thats all the news for now, thanks for all your messages, keep them coming!
