And so to Nha Trang. We´re getting towards the end of Vietnam but at the top of my list was getting some dives logged - and to reach number 60!
Nha Trang is not quite so idyllic as the photo may suggest (again issues with finding an appropriate one!) - it´s more like a Costa del Sol town with high rise hotels just back from the beach and the road right next to it. A lot of the beach isn´t gorgeous, but we found the beach club La Louisiane and there, it´s gorgeous! Trust us - in typical backpacker style we´ve spent everyday at the poshest place here, but hey, it´s got a nice bit of beach and a pool, plus free pool and a good restaurant so we´re not really complaining or feeling bad about it!!!!
The diving has been fun - the sites are interesting and there´s different marine life. Unlike Malaysia and Thailand where there is less variety but tons of it, here there a fewer of more species. I dived with Rainbow Divers and a fab DM called Clara - I´d thoroughly recommend the company, very professional and all a good laugh. A bit more expensive but you get more expensive! And now, 5 dives later, I´m up to dive 60 - hooray!!! So that´s it for diving for now (until Brazil)...
We´ve met up with lots of people here - Caro´s friend Zach from Chiang Mai, Susan and James from Malaysia/Thailand/Laos, and - yes - Caro´s Chris. Unfortunately, that situation hit the fan, but with our boys who we´re still travelling with, plus a few other people we´ve met here through diving etc, we´ve had an awesome social life here and it´s set to continue into Saigon! And there have been some legendary nights out - most memorably (or not?!) at the infamous Sailing Club, where we introduced everyone to new drinking games (and long may they continue there) and where Caro got SO hammered I practically had to carry her home. That made us VERY easy targets for a large group of Vietnamese-ladyboy-muggers, and thank god our boys (them being Simon and Verns) were there to rescue us with some fantastic language...!
But otherwise - apart from the evenings out and the diving - we´ve been a bit lazy, fully aware that the next 2 weeks (which is about all we have left in Asia :( !) are going to be quite hardcore travelling - a lot of ground to cover, and a tough country to get through. But we´re on our way - Saigon here we come, then it´s onto Cambodia - a country so many people have warned us about that I´m thoroughly intrigued...
