Come Fly With Me
A Surfeit of Monkeynuts
Arrived in Singapore late morning on Wednesday after a VERY uncomfortable couple of flights, including a late departure thanks to sandstorms in Bahrain...
We've spent 2 fab days here, one of them wandering around Little India (an assault on the senses) and Chinatown (a more genteel Khao San Road?) and the other on Sentosa Island. We found ourselves wandering into the Shangri La resort there and spent a very comfortable afternoon by the pool - well we were in Singapore to get over jetlag and it seemed like the best way! Sentosa was gorgeous - our first SE Asian beach (even if it was manmade with a view out to the delightful tankers at sea) and the weather was just perfect for swimming, sunning and sleeping. Turned out we were REALLY lucky with the weather as when we woke up on the 3rd day it was pouring - a real Asian storm with thunder and lightning accompanying breakfast!
We spent both evenings in the company of our contact over here, Neil (Hannah R's friend) and his flatmate Duncan. We were treated to roast beef at the Singapore Cricket Club on the first night, which Caro and I followed up by heading to the Long Bar at Raffles, having sickly sweet Singapore Slings, killer Mojitos and Mai Tais, and FAR too many monkeynuts for our own good. It's got to be done! On the second night Caro and I found an excellent restaurant down by the Quays where we indulged in delicious Japanese/Indonesian food and then met the guys at a very cool bar - complete with vodka Ice Bar and several fishtanks, which more than made up for my lack of energy when it came to attempting to visit the aquarium on Sentosa! That experience wouldn't have come with copious G&Ts after all...
Heading out of Singapore now - it has officially been slung. Onwards and upwards to KL via Melaka...til then xxxx
