We are now in Rotorua. We got here about lunch time and then we went white water rafting. I was a bit scared a to start off with but once we got going I really enjoyed it. The first challenge I had was to jump into the boat, I had visions of me falling out straight away but I didn't. We all got in and then the man gave us some safety instructions. We went down some waterfalls and then we got to the biggest one, it was 7ft tall! It's the biggest waterfall that you can go down in a raft! I can't believe we all made it to the bottom in the raft! I was so scared, the man kept telling us to paddle into it but I held on tight. We were rafting for about an hour. We all had such a great time. Before we got into the raft the man said a Maori prayer - asking them if they would bless us on our way down, its a tradition before you set off down the river. All the way down the man made us chant out Maori sayings about the river! It was so good, by the end of if we were all screaming them out, as we were so hyped up!
We made tea tonight at the hostel which was really nice. I opted to wash up instead of cook. We are here in Rotoura for a few more days. Tomorrow night we are going to a Maori cultural night, where they dance the Haka and eat traditional Maori food - not sure how I will cope eating that! Lol! I will post again at the end of our stay in Rotorua.
UPDATE: Just need to update this one, I realised that I had said that the waterfall was 7 ft tall, it was actually 7 meters!
