Queenstown
Thought I would write a few lines about Queenstown while I have the chance. We are leaving Queenstown on Tuesday morning and heading to Christchurch until Friday – that’s when we leave for Australia! When we get there we are heading to Sydney for a week and then we are heading up the east coast in a camper van! Lol! It’s a 6 berth one so hopefully we should all be able to fit in with our belongings! We have got about a month to make our way up the coast and then going to have a week in Cairns!
Well, we have had a great time here. We haven't been up to much really, just been chilling. We have been here since Tuesday and when we got here we all went out. We started off in the hostel bar and then headed to a bar called the 'World Bar', where you drunk out of tea pots! So that was fun!
On the Wednesday I went hand gliding. James came too and Anita and Naomi went for a canyon swing. I was really excited about the hand gliding but then I realized that you had to run off the edge of the cliff, so I then became nervous! The person that I was going with was called Augsto and we practiced running in time with each other first before we ran off the edge for real. I started to get nervous as I was harnessed in and we made our way to the edge. We had to wait for a while for the wind, so we kept changing direction. When the wind came we had to go and then we ran! It was such an odd feeling as before I knew it we were in the air. It was an amazing experience and the views were spectacular over Queenstown, it helped that the weather was perfect as all the other days we have been here the weather has been a bit dim! Before we came down we did a few quick spins in the air which were really scary. We then came down to land and it felt like we were going to crash head first as you land on your stomach! I was quite relieved when I realized we hadn't crashed and I was still in one piece.
On Thursday we travelled to Milford Sound for the day, which is a World Heritage Site. Milford Sound is a fjord in the south west of the south island. It was such a long day but was well worth it as the views were amazing. When we got there we went on a boat, despite taking 8 travel sick pills I still felt sick the whole time we were on there. There was a buffet lunch on board, so the boys took advantage of it! We went to a floating underwater observatory which was cool. On the way there we stopped off a lot to take photos, so it didn't feel as if we were on a coach for the whole day.
Friday, I know that it’s only Sunday today, but I can't remember what we got up to in the day time. In the evening we went to the ice bar called Minus 5. The temperature was actually minus 9! As me and Naomi were wearing 'jandals' they gave us little boots to wear. It was really cool inside! Lol! We could only stay in there half an hour. They had an ice gun which shot out shots! Me and Naomi had one each and they were freezing!
Yesterday we had a relaxing day and we went up the gondola. Well me and Anita had a relaxing time as the others walked up instead. About an hour later they found me and Anita in the cafe!
Tonight we are going out for tea at the legendary 'Fergburger' - apparently they have the best burgers - will have one later and let you all know whether they are the best!
I think that’s all for now, hope you all have enjoyed reading about my time in Queenstown even though there is nothing much to report. It is odd really that we haven't been up to much as Queenstown is the adventure capital of New Zealand and I have spent most of my time here shopping!
Oh, I nearly forgot to mention that Naomi did the Nevis bungy here! It’s the highest bungy in New Zealand which is 134 m - so well done Naomi!
Will update either in Christchurch depending on what happens or when I get to Sydney. x
