Day Five Saturday 8th July 2023
Today we stayed in Leiston to visit the factory where they built many of the old Steam Traction Engines. This factory was owned by the Garrett family and is called the 'Long Shop'. This building was designed to allow the building of the engines all in one place, the first production line in the UK. The site is now a museum and has many engine exhibits as can be seen in today's pictures. Also taking part at the museum today was a Morris Car Rally, with some twenty different cars taking part.
The museum is just a five-minute walk from our base and so there was no need to rush to get up. We had a coffee in the garden before we made our way over to the 'Long Shop'.
The exhibits were well presented and there were a great many engines to look at. Unfortunately, none of them were 'in steam' today.
Once we had seen all we wanted we made our way home for lunch before deciding on what to do in the afternoon.
After lunch we made our way back to Aldeburgh to purchase some crab for dinner.
NO CRAB - never mind we bought some nice Smoked Salmon and Prawns for Anita and Cockles for Steve.
We sat on the beach in the sun, no sorry cloud, no sorry sunny, no sorry a shower, no sorry oh well a warm afternoon enjoying an ice cream each.
Once we returned home, we watched the last hour of the Tour de France before dinner.
Total travel distance was 20 miles.
Tomorrow Richard, Kelly and Annabelle are coming over for Lunch so we may go to Thorpeness for Breakfast and then to Leiston Abbey before we meet them for lunch, but it might rain so we shall see.
