Day One Tuesday 4th July 2023
We travel to Leiston
We woke to a grey cloudy sky with the threat of rain. Nothing unusual there then as it is summer after all. A lot of the things we were going to take Anita had already packed into the car yesterday, so today, it was mostly personal items and of course food. Once the car was packed and we had left food for the Hedgehogs (all their food went last night, mind you it does get raided by the Magpie family we have in the trees behind us) and fed our goldfish in his new outdoor pond we were ready to leave. By now it was just after nine and we left at 09.10 before the rain came. We had planned to travel along our normal route to Suffolk along the A14 stopping at our regular halfway stop for a coffee and bite to eat. All went well (apart from the odd rain shower) until we got to our normal watering hole turning only to find that it was gone, and a smart new road sent us whizzing past its location. It was another 10 miles before we could stop for a break. So, we pulled into the Cambridge Services at 11.20 for our break after a drive of 130 miles. We stayed for a while, leaving at 12.10 and headed off on the last leg of the journey to Leiston. This part of the journey could not have been any more different to the first part, driving along country lanes and roads that weaved their way through small village after small village with 30 MPH speed limits all the way. Never mind, it was a pleasant drive, and we were glad to be back in the countryside. This second drive was only 81 miles long but took as long as the first one with us arriving at Buller Road, Leiston (our home for the next week) at 14.02.
While it was dry and as soon as we unpacked the 'makings', we sat and relaxed in the last of the day's sunshine with a cuppa.
Tomorrow we are hoping to get to see the Sizewell Power Station and visit the local coast line.
Total distance travelled 211 miles
Time spent on journey 4 hrs. 52 mins (inc break)
