This pm we did a heli hike up the Franz Josef glacier, and we were very excited! The day was perfect and when we got all the gear on we had a 10 min helicopter up to one of the highest points we were able to walk on. In our small group we had a guide, with a pick axe, who showed us some of the different coloured ice, the ice tunnels and helped to make a safe path for us to walk. We also saw a lake that had formed near to the top in the past few days. It was such an amazing experience and we both loved the whole thing,especially once we had figured out how to walk with the crampons on our boots so we didnt fall over! After we spent some time in the glacier hot pools, and a much deserved glass or two of wine!!
