Angie's Trip to England
Finally you get to hear about London!! Our trip was amazing! Amy and I had the best time with mom and dad.
We arrived to London at about 8 oclock friday night. The four of us went down to the hotel sports bar and had a beer and "crisps"...we chatted for a bit and then went to bed fairly early. On Saturday we woke up, showered, and headed out for a long day of sight seeing. First we walked to Buckingham Palace (Mom almost got us lost). It was really neat to see but I was expecting it to look much more like a castle. And it was a little disappointing that the guards had on their winter attire instead of the red coats but what can ya do?! Then we walked to Westminster Abbey and on the way got some breakfast...I think I was the only one who liked mine! I got a bacon and cheese toasted sandwich and it was great. The bacon here is not like ours...its less fatty and more like ham and delicious. I will surely miss it when I get home. After eating we went to the Abbey and were disappointed to find that it was closed for the day so we couldnt see the inside. Ok so in truth, I was ok with it because I personally think if you see the inside of one gorgeous church then you have seen inside them all. But Amy loves it and I am sure Mom and Dad would have enjoyed it as well. The outside of the Abbey absolutely gorgeous though! I love the architechture here in England. The next building we saw was Big Ben and the House of Parliament. This is by far my favorite...it is so so amazing and just awesome. Its located on the river too which is nice. Afterward, we went and bought tickets for the London eye which was a nice experience. You could really see a lot of London by riding it. When we finished with the eye, we decided to master the underground (tube...aka subway). We took the tube to the London Tower and Tower Bridge. Both of which were very pretty. After this we took the tube to Camden Market which is like a street fair. They have purses, t-shirts, clothes, shoes, jewelry, etc on sale for cheap. So that was fun...Amy and I spent a decent amount of money on some things. And finally, we took the tube back to our hotel where we freshened up to go eat. For dinner, we walked to this little Italian restaurant that was recommended to mom and dad. I had the most amazing meal...I swear, Italian food in England so good! I cant wait for the real thing in Italy. Anyways...for dessert I had ice cream with fresh cut strawberries which I had been craving for some time. It was a really nice meal (thanks mom and dad!). After eating we went back to the hotel, watched the Olympics a bit, and then went to bed.
Sunday we woke up, showered, and went for breakfast at a bagel place. Its been a long time since we've had bagels so they were pretty good. We then took the tube to Buckingham Palace so we could see the changing of the guard. It was absolutely freezing but a must see when you go to London. It was a pretty neat ceremony but too crowded so we really couldnt see much. By the end because it was so cold and there were so many people it was almost miserable! We then went in a couple shops and walked back to the tube which we took to the train station. At waterloo station we got a train to Windsor castle and on the hour long ride it started raining =( We were hoping it would stop by the time we got there but it didnt. It was a nice steady rain the whole time we were outside the castle. We got there just before closing so unfortunetly we didnt get to go inside at all but we did get to see a mini changing of the guard. He was super hot so Amy and I were commenting on it and you could tell he was trying hard not to smile (he was clenching his jaw) and remember they arent allowed to smile either. So we kept looking at him and laughing well when he stepped down to change guards, he laughed for a second! Too bad we didnt get a picture but I must say, it was one of the highlights of the trip haha. Windsor castle though is absolutely breathtaking. People have been telling us to go and I am so glad we did because it is my favorite castle I have seen so far. After we left the castle, Amy and I shopped a bit in the freezing cold rain while mom and dad sat in a nice warm restaurant drinking a beer. Then we all got dinner at a french cafe...I got cream brulee!! YUM! Again, it was really good good (thanks mom and dad). After dinner we left and caught a train back to London...soaking wet and freezing mind you. Then took the tube back to our hotel. Amy and I showered because we were so cold and for the rest of the night we layed around and watched the Olympics.
Monday we all woke up and packed our stuff. We walked down to the bagel shop and had breakfast. Then Amy and I said bye to Mom and Dad which was super sad...it was weird to see them leave! Amy and I then went to Oxford street for an hour before going to the station and catching a train home to Reading. All in all it was a very good weekend...and Dad will never forget that I am better at mapping out the underground lol. I am so happy you guys got to come in and visit...it was amazing!
