Back to Barranco Bar.
Again a fairly uneventful day. We managed to almost miss breakfast only getting up at 11. We then chilled for most of the day trying to work out what we wanted to do in Equador and Columbia. Andy and Tamara had told us about a salsa congress near Buenos Aires so we felt we should look to see if it would be possible for us to attend. We eventually worked out an itinery and tried to contact the various agencies involved, of course none of them replied. For dinner we decided to copy an amazing sandwich we had seen in a local cafe. Our version included Ham,cheese, hot dog sausages, tomatoes carrot, cabbage, beetroot, dressing, avocado, egg and 4 slices of bread!! We were fairly impressed with the result which looked really impressive and tasted great, once we worked out how to eat it!! We felt by now we should go out dancing as we wanted to take the metro bus there which stops at 10. We got ready and caught almost the last bus, picking up an energy drink each on the way and arrived at Barranco Bar just before 10. This was finally more like what we've been looking for, as we walked in the DJ was playing a mix 50/50 reggaton and salsa so we got up every second song or so for a dance. Unfortunately we were the only dancers there but at least the floor was good and the drinks were reasonably priced. At around 11:30 the first of the 4 bands advertised for that night came on. We initially thought it may be a boy band as there were 4 identically dressed young men taking up the front of the stage, but it turned out to be a salsa orquestra who were in fact really good, even if the Peruvian crowd completely ignored their presence. (no one clapped, no one danced and very few of them even looked at the stage, you wonder why they paid to get in!!) We danced to about 2/3rd of their set and were thoroughly enjoying ourselves and have to say that we were slightly disappointed when they eventually finished and were replaced by a DJ playing reggaton and some idiot on stage who loved his own voice and spent the next hour rambling about various pointless stuff. By the time the second band came on we were quite tired and our eyes were stinging from all the cigarette smoke, we stayed for 2 songs, long enough to determine that they weren't very good and that the floor was no longer danceable due to the locals inability to keep their beer in their glasses (it's not that hard) so we called it a night and caught a taxi back to the hostel where we discovered that everything is closed on a sunday so it was impossible to get any food. This meant we were forced to settle for an egg sandwich before bed instead of nuggets much to Mae's disgust!.
