Beach Day
We were up at 9 today as we had agreed to meet a man who sells dance shoes at the congress fo a beach day. After finally getting breakfast, the lady clearly assumed we didn't want any and Mae eventually had to go and ask her, we walked to the metro-bus and took a short ride before walking the extra km or so to Jose's house. We managed to almost be on time and took only one wrong turn on the way. When we arrived Jose introduced us to his niece who he had agreed to give a lift to and gave us both a glass of water before we set off. We dropped his niece off at her house and then drove 39 mins or so to the beaches south of Lima which were quite busy but we were informed that they would be absolutly packed at the weekend. We found a place to rest and ordered a beer which we drank while applying sun lotion. We relaxed for the next hour or drinking a second beer and chatting about various stuff mostly salsa related. At this point we decided to brave the sea, which turned out to be cold although tolerable once you were in. We swam about a bit but didn't stay in long as the beach was extreamly steep and there was no opportunity to stand on the ocean floor. Our rather brief swim done Jose ordered a mixed Ceviche for us to share which included fish, shrimp and small octopi rather than just fish which is more traditional. It tasted amazing and we quickly polished the plate off between us before lying back to sunbath at which point we all managed to fall asleep. When we woke up we discovered that the sun was now hiding behind the clouds and this meant that it was getting a little cold. We decided it was time to leave and went to one of Jose's friends houses. It turns out that this guy used to own a night club and now lives in a very large modern house complete with swimming pool on the terrace and a gold course next door... We sat around chatting until it got dark at which point Jose gave us a lift back to Miraflores, refused to take any money for the food and drink at the beach and said to look him up on facebook. We popped into the supermarket to buy some ingridients for stir fry and a couple of cheesy olive breads, after several failed attempts to work out the price of things of course!! We had found a place that looked likely for dancing that night and after dinner we got ready and walked the short distance to the club, we discovered that it was indeed salsa but as the entrance fee turned out to be a ridiculous price (S40 each) we decided we'de give that a miss (especially since from the people standing around outside we were likely to be the only dancers!!) We also looked in Son de Cuba but it was so packed you coudn't even have gotten on the dance floor (and it's crap anyway!) Somewhat disapointed we consoled ourselves with a very large tasty ice cream and walked back to the hostel.
