Castle Tam Hostel San Jose
Not a lot to say about today really, we spent most of it getting some laundry done and trying to plan out our tour of South America. We did venture out to look around a few shops and try to cash a cheque at the bank where we were told we'd need an account to do so. So with this we headed to the post office and after a quick trip to the shop next door as they don't sell envelopes, managed to send the cheque and our postcards home. With a now extremely chuffed Mae (she got to use her Spanish) we went to the local shopping centre for a cup of coffee and some cheesecake. It turns out that there really is no word for cheesecake in Spanish however this doesn't mean they can't make it. It had an odd slightly marshmallow-like texture but was delicious as was the coffee served with it!! After that we had a quick look round the shops which here at least are mainly imported American stores
which makes them very expensive, the locals do however appear to have an obsession with underwear as every 5th shop seems to be selling lingerie!! Back at the hostel we just had time for couple of "Cuba Libres" (rum and coke with lime) while we discovered the washing still wasn't done before heading out to get a take-away pizza. We found out that "hongos" are mushrooms, very important as Mae is allergic!! And ended up with a Pizza containing everything but! It was really tasty and we quickly ate it before collecting our washing (finally) and packing up ready to leave the next morning.
