So much for my lie in this morning- I was wide awake at 8am. We had to check out today as we were catching the Greyhound to Edmonton at 1pm. We were just going to get a taxi from the hostel into town but luckily one of the guys that works at the hostel was driving into town at the same time as us so he offered us a lift, saving us $15.00!
The bus took around 5 hours and it was a fairly boring journey- as soon as we left Jasper the scenery was just really uninteresting. Luckily I had my i-pod to keep me entertained. We were told by so many people that Edmonton wasn't really worth going to but we wanted to form our own opinion. Before the bus even stopped I had already started to share those people's opinions!! We have 2 nights here so only one full day as we got to the hostel around 6.30ish pm and are leaving early on Friday. There are a few things we want to do and see that will definitely fill that one day but driving into Edmonton Kelly and I looked at each other with the same expressions that said what the......??!!
I was instantly filled with dread and regret and felt quite down when we got to the hostel. The hostel itself seems nice enough, we're in an 8 bed dorm. The hostel has everything we need. It's located right near Whyte Avenue which we'll check out tomorrow. This is the main street for shops, restaurants and bars I think.
I can't have too much of a strong opinion about Edmonton yet because we've not ventured out yet so I'll form my final opinion tomorrow.
It's mostly older people here at this hostel but we've already spoken to some really nice people.
I think we're going to be heading over to the East side fairly quickly now as there isn't a great deal in this area, and it's Kelly's birthday in 9 days so it will be nice to spend it somewhere a bit more interesting.
