Amy's travels
Hello everyone,
We have decided not to go Langkawi as we didn't get the ferry today and won't have enough time there to make it worth the travelling if we go tomorrow. We are heading back to KL instead before going to Melaka on Wednesday.
Yesterday we went up to the top of Penang Hill on the funicular (not sure I've spelt that right!) railway and the view was amazing. We were actually in the clouds at the top of the hill and there was an fantastic (if slightly misty) view of Georgetown and the 13km bridge that connects Penang to mainland Malaysia. In the evening we went to a great Indian restaurant that served the food on banana leaves for plates but the waitress was very concerned that the dishes we had chosen were going to be too spicy for us. It seems everyone here thinks that English people cannot handle spicy food.
Today was a bit of a lazy day. We pottered around the shops in the morning and then went to the Penang museum this afternoon. The museum houses lots of magnificant traditional costumes (Chinese, Malay and Indian), furniture and everyday items. The Chinese bridal dresses were amazing - there was a different outfit for each day of their 30 day wedding. It was well worth the 1RM (15p) admission fee!
So tomorrow we are getting a bus back to KL at the inhuman hour of 6:30 am and are planning some more sight-seeing in the city for the next few days.
I hope everyone is well,
Love Amy x x x
