Monday 6 July
I get up to woodpeckers knocking on trees. At first i thought it was someone knocking on a RV door. Lots of squirrels and chipmunks about. The chipmunks are tiny and cute. And they run fast. We pack up and head on our way via some giant trees and a massive stump ppl once thought was a hoax because it was so big. I wonder how long they have been around. I wonder if they come from the beginning. It's about 3 hours until we are in the national park of Yosemite. We stop at the first visitors centre and find out about the camping situation. The nicest spots are reservation only and booking starts in nov! There is a few just first in first served so we head to the first recommended one. There is plenty of space and we set up our tent, have lunch and take a nap! We are so tired. The hot sun awakens us and we get up to check out the lookout spots along the road. We start at the main point at the end. It's far different to what I thought the name was indicating (glacier point). It's an amazing view of all over the park and down into the valley.
Heading back up the road we stop at the sites along the way. A lot of them have walks, but they are many miles long. We settle for one to some meadows. Most of the meadows are very similar. Almost wetland in places. But so beautiful and peaceful.
After dinner we go for a walk and
Mal washes in a stream. There are no showers here. I make do with a sponge.
A ranger comes by and invites us to a campfire meeting, which we go to. It's very interesting about the wild life- namely bears and mountain lions. Bears are pretty common and very good at getting food- including from locked cars. No problem. Just pull the door off. Mountain lions are very rare and the ranger had only glimpsed two in his 19 summers at the park.
Then bed! It's supposed to be 5°C. And it's freezing!
