Thursday 21st May
We get up early to take a boat to see the sun rise and it's very pretty. We get back and have breakfast. We make the end of the line, but again not enough food and those who come on the time said virtually miss out. No bell or nothing. Really disappointing for an expensive tour!
After breakfast we head out in the boat for a jungle walk.
We arrive at a spot in The jungle and start walking stopping frequently for explanations of creatures and plants. We leave the path for a bit free styling it. I doubt there are many larger animals about due to human scent from frequent path use. We see a red tree frog. A heavy shower comes, and although not much reaches us on the forest floor the sound is massive, like a waterfall nearby. We return for lunch.
We are to leave for our jungle night at 2:30pm. We travel far by boat and enter a flooded area. We float through and by tree tops. It's do beautiful. It floods something like 29metres. We see lots of different monkeys and close too. Also another slough in a tree and one of the guides climbs the tree to get him. He doesn't want to be brought down and when he is pried loose he was accidentally dropped and he fall some ways. He actually managed to catch himself on the boat and the other guide quickly grabbed him up and passed him around. Pretty amazing all in all. Malcolm held him. I was less keen. When he was put back on the tree he climbed into the water and swam away.
There are lots low beaches to avoid. Eventually it opens up and we reach the main lake area. There are very dark clouds. We continue down further river systems until we reach the night spot. Apparently we are at a different spot than initially planned due to the dark clouds. There is a long shelter. Half go into the jungle to find wood and get leaves for plates. The girls head off via boat to get wood. We get a light shower. I see a large caiman. We stop in a strand of trees with a few tall deaf ones. We push the boat right in then the guide hacks two down. They are covered in ants. Back at camp preparation is made for dinner-two chickens spread out in spires over a fire. Then leaves folded into plates and held together with tree thorns. Spoons carved out. Just before the chickens are ready eggs and rice are out in to cook. It's a bit annoying not to be helping; we could at least be looking for hammock spots! Sore bottom fro. Sitting in wood all afternoon and sore back. Want to lie down! Dinner is good and afterwards we find hammocks spots. We choose to see outside and not under the shelter. I hope it doesn't rain in the night. The Mosquitos are bad. They bite through clothes. We use about half our bug spray. Face neck and clothes! I'm glad I changed into jeans even though it's very warm and muggy.
We find spots- though it's hard in the dark. They are not good enough when the guides come check, so they clear some land and hang them and mosquito nets side by side. We hear some of the others leave by boat for a night swim. Sounds like fun.
