Monday 18th May
Amazingly the night passed quicker than imagined. I even managed to doze sleep.
We check in and go through security. I doze through most of the first flight. For the first time ever We didn't have to get off the plane when it landed: just wait for the next passengers to board! Who would have thought. The next flight to our destination is longer. Dozing passes the time. We arrive: it's an hour behind here. Our friends are waiting for us. So nice to see a familiar face. Whew though, it's HOT and muggy. Over 30°C! In no time sweating and sticky. The trip to the accommodation is about 40-50 min, and then we have to walk a ways further. Seems there are 3 places with virtually the same name. Our friends help us check in and join the wifi. We make plans to catch up later.
Amazingly the room has air con on 24/7 to keep the temp manageable. Everything is tiled. The bathroom is huge in comparison to the bedroom. The bed is up on a raised tile platform. There is only a sheet over a plastic/rubbery covered mattress and pillows.
We rest, then go for a walk to find a supermarket for food. There is no kitchen at our current place. We stop at one place, but it's more a department store selling only junk/snack foods. The heat is nearly unbearable in my exhausted state. Eventually we do find a supermarket and manage to buy things we can eat that comes ready to eat.
We planned to meet about 7pm so we wait outside. The wifi isn't working. We go back inside about 7:30. Unfortunately it's hotter inside (bar the rooms). Our friends arrive and we go out for traditional local food. Acai berry smoothies, tapioca pancake with banana, cheese and local vege inside. All very nice.
We go walking in a local park.
I'm so glad to shower when we get back. Even though it's cool. Not much need for hot water here I guess. I use my silksak and Malcolm uses a wrap. Bed never looked so good
