Friday 24th April
An early start of 3:30 for 4am leaving for the airport, only to be told that our flight is delayed two hours. Feeling tired. The flight to buenos aires is just over 2 hours. We watch some TV shoes: Malcolm about national geographic photographers and factories and me about a government spying/security machine.
The airport is right in the harbour, which is brown. There are lots of established trees which give it a nice feel. It takes less than half an hour to drive to our hotel, which looks very nice. We are told our rooms will not be ready until 3pm. Also no included breakfast or wifi. An expensive hotel, with nothing included. We join a small portion of our group to go for lunch with our CEO. We are right by the main flash shopping area of BA. There are lots of ppl trying to sell tours and exchange money on the black market. BA is known for its leather and there are nice things in the shop windows, but prices don't seem cheap to me as they do to our CEO. The prices are close to Australia prices to me. Our CEO thinks Australia must be cheap. Maybe it is? The cars are cheaper and good quality shoes about the same cost. Who knows?
Lunch is ok, but in craving basic, filling, healthy food. It's hard not being able to cook! After lunch we walk around viewing important buildings, an obelisk and war memorials and large mansions. The streets are packed and multi lanes -like 4 on a shopping street. On a multi-storied building there is a house built on top. It looks cool, but so strange up there. We get back to the hotel in time for 3pm. We get our rooms and go and rest. We have decided not to go out for dinner and tango show. It's a little sad as it's the last night and we might not see everyone in the morning. I'm feeling ok, but lots of ulcers on my tongue.
Later in the evening we go out it but some food. There is a little supermarket. I want to buy some tinned lentils- then remember we have no way of opening them. There is no fruit here, and most places don't sell it, but eventually we find some. We fumble our way through getting subway for dinner. It's nice to have something fresh. Showers and washing and an early night.
