We had a early start for our flight to Auckland and sitting next to a ridiculous, typical American for our 3 hour flight, which was horrendously bumpy, wasn't the best morning of the trip so far! But 3 hours later and we had left the sunny islands of Fiji and landed into New Zealand. We both found it a bit strange being in a city again and seeing cars and high rise buildings. After spending a while in Maccies (free wifi) we headed down to the harbour and lay out watching the boats and soaking up some sun. Later that evening we managed to get hold of Dom, Amy's friend that we were staying with and met her for dinner down at the Harbour. It was great to eat a good meal and have a glass of wine looking over all of the boats. Dom then drove us up to Mount Eden so we could see Auckland skyline at night, which really was amazing. After heading back to Dom's flat we managed to put some photos on the computer and then fell fast asleep after a long day!
We woke up pretty early on Wednesday and sorted some bits and pieces out before heading out to explore Auckland. Dom's flat was looking out to Eden Park rugby stadium so we had a walk to there and took some snaps. Once we got into the city centre we were pretty hungry so walked to a supermarket and ate our lunch on a lovely park, once again in the sun...travelling really is hard work :) After wandering around the city walking up some very steep roads we got to the Sky Tower which we decided to go up. The views were amazing up there and we could see all of Auckland and beyond. Being that high up did start to make up think about our Sky dive, and I think both of us realised how scary it actually would be to be a million times higher and jumping out of a plane! After the sky tower, we caught a bus to Mission Bay, which is a beach really close to the centre. After a lay down and ice cream in the park it was time to head back to Dom's where we were provided with a lovely meal of Lasange and Sex and the City film....Perfect night!
Waking up on Thursday, I managed to skype home and then we got some washing sorted so that our clothes could feel a tiny bit more clean!!! Me and Amy have already turned into tramps and its only 2 weeks in, slightly worrying. We decided to walk to a place called Parnell, which was a lovely little area of Auckland and we were in search of the "chocolate boutique' that Dom had recommeded to us! We decided on a humungous chocolate sundae, which had everything chocolate possible! A bit more walking later to try and burn the millions of calories off from the ice cream and we got to Auckland museum. We spent a while looking around the museum and learning a lot about New Zealand, we also experienced a fake earthquake which was quite exciting. That evening Dom took us to a place called Kite Kite falls, which we sped walked up to make it there and back in time to watch the sunset on the beach. The water fall was pretty spectacular and it was great to walk through the rainforest! Getting back to the beach (Piha Beach) the sun was still up so we lay our towels down, ate some pizza, drank some beers and watched lots of surfers whilst the sun was going down. This evening was one of my favourites so far, the views from driving along the coast and watching the sunset was perfect. We headed back to Dom's and packed our bags up ready for an early start of the Kiwi Experience.....
Love Meg and Amy xxx
