It was time for another night bus, this time I was a little apprehensive about this journey as I'd read about the roads in Cambodia not being that safe. Anyway we boarded our VIP bus at midnight... Definitely wasn't VIP and nothing like the night buses in Thailand, more like an Arriva bus you'd get in Leicester. Anyway, the journey started and we felt as if we were at Alton Towers for the night. The bus was going all over the place, lots of sudden breaking, going down pot holes and round corners at a very quick speed, making it feel as if the bus was driving on 2 wheels not 4! Amy resulted in sleeping on the floor as it was impossible to sleep on the seats, she wedged herself into a tight gap and slept on and off for the rest of the journey. I spent the journey trying not to think about whether we were going to make it there in one piece and counting down the minutes until it was over. 6 hours later and we arrived in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. We were dumped on the side of the road and waited another 2 hours for our next bus down to Silnoukville on the coast. Finally we were on the bus and en route, however the bus then decided to just wait in the middle of the road for an hour, we still don't know why! During this time the driver thought it would be a good idea to put the TV on and on full volume play Cambodian music. This angered most of the bus as we were all shattered and trying to sleep. A German woman was shouting "NO MUSIC!!" And then an English guy stormed to the front and insisted he turned it off. The driver had a rather confused look on his face at this and didn't seem to see what the fuss was about. Anyway, time to sleep or try to, I think both of us managed to doze on and off for a couple of hours. The hours were ticking by and we arrived on the coast at around 4pm, once again a very long journey. After checking in to our hotel, a room with no windows and just a little fan, we headed out to get some food. Our plan then was to nap until around 8 and go back out to see what was around. I vaguely remember the alarm going off, but I turned it straight off and went back to sleep. Next thing I know and it's 9am! Yes we slept for a long time, but must have needed it! We were spending 5 days down here on the coast, but they ended up being a bit rubbish for me as I was still struggling with my malaria tablets. This meant I spent my time either asleep in the room, or trying to sleep on a sun bed on the beach. I couldn't really do anything so we probably didn't make the most of our time here, sorry Amy :( Our next destination was back up to Phnom Penh for a couple of days for a bit of history and culture before flying back to Thailand. Lots of love Meg and Amy xxxxxx
