After spending 2 days travelling on old transport we were very tired so allowed ourselves a treat... A restaurant. Siem Reap has a road in the middle called pub street where all the tourists are and we found a Mexican and had lots of yummy food and after a brief look around went back for a good nights sleep. We were spending a few days here visiting all the temples so didn't feel guilty having a very long lie in the next day. Unfortunately Meg was feeling very poorly and we guessed it must be side effects of the malaria tablets, meaning she spent the day and night sleeping and I updated the pictures. Trying to be a good nurse I went out and got a takeaway ice cream for the patient and thought we'd try again tomorrow. Today feeling slightly better we managed to rent out bikes for the day and braved cycling on the manic roads with our tiny map. We were much more successful cycling than on our scooters and made it to the royal palace gardens, it was boiling hot and the only time we felt cool was riding along with the breeze in our faces. After sitting in the musuem under the fan, as we refused to pay the expensive entry fee we decided to cycle to the main temple Angkor Watt to see how long it takes so we could make it in time for sunset later. It was a nice ride through shady lanes and didn't take long so before we knew it we were at the ticket booth and having an awful picture taken for our 24 hour pass to the temples. The sunset was beautiful as we sat with Angkor Watt behind us relexing, we took more pictures before getting back on our bikes for an early night before another early start to catch the rise. Today we didn't fancy cycling so we hired a tuk tuk for the morning, first up back at Angkor Watt with hundreds of other tourists waiting for sunrise. As it eventually peeked through behind the temple people cheered (cheesy) but then we saw it and were impressed with how pretty it looked in the setting. There is a lake in front of the temple and after sitting for a while we went inside and explored, the temple is huge and beautiful with a lot still in tact including some very steep stairs we kept climbing. I decided it would be a good proposal spot but we were soon off in the tuk tuk to many more temples. We went to Angkor Thom, Bayon, elephant temple and lots more all different and my favourite had tree roots intwined with the stone structure of the buildings. As beautiful as they were after so many we were glad to be finished and heading back for a mini lunch break. We had already checked out but our night bus wasn't until 12am, luckily the hostel owners had a spare room and let us use that for the rest of the evening, we were very grateful! So we went for food I had my new favourite dish chicken amok and meg had a Cambodian curry both very yummy and then prepared for our next journey! We have seen lots of temples already so are heading for a beach break to get our tans back lots of love Amy and Meg! Xxxx
