Magnetic island was so small with only one road running through it. The bus driver was lovely enough to help us off the bus and we checked into the koala sanctuary which had cute little cabins on stilts. After we had our lunch we booked in to visit the on site sanctuary where we got to hold koalas, crocodiles, snakes, lizards and I was lucky enough to hold a wombat that almost weighed the same as me!! Our koala was so cute because we were staying there we got free printed pictures!! After the tour we fed a million lorikeets which was funny!! A lot of people got pooed on haha!!
We went for an afternoon walk down to the bay and grabbed some bits for dinner. We met friends we had made on the whitsundays- Aleesh and Tom and they had rented a topless jeep barbie style which Ed and I wanted to do but I don't think we can afford it!! When we got groceries I gave the lady $10 and got back $40 which was good but I felt so guilty!! We had a drink in our hostel bar and then a dip in the pool before enjoying our free dinner!! Our roomies were nice and there was a trivia in the bar so we joined in. We ended up coming 2nd but won best name (krazy koalas) so got free drinks Yey!! We headed to bed after to save money as we would only spend on alcohol!
Today was Easter!! I woke up and went for a run along the beach saw the lagoon and the Sunday morning markets! I got back got ready and had breaky with Ed. We ventured about the markets and decided against renting a car and headed to two secluded nudist beaches that you can only trek to! It was a tough walk but we had the beach to ourselves. I ended up falling asleep and woke up and lost Ed but after minutes searching the beach I saw him on the highest rock waving I wasn't happy haha!! We visited two separate bays which were gorgeous balding and radical very scenic and secluded. We headed back and enjoyed an Easter lunch treat by the beach near the hostel!! After lunch we hitch hiked to different parts of the island we wanted to visit.
First we did forts walk which was again tough in the heat but we had a fantastic 360 view of the little island!! We then visited the islands only waterfall which was fun we climbed and swam in it. After we went to a spot the otherside of the island to feed the wild wallabies!! It was so fun they ate from our hands!! We walked along Geoffrey bay and I found another $20 wahoo!! We hitched another ride to see the other parts of the island whilst the sun set and then when it got dark a kind man picked us up and dropped us back. It was out of his way which we appreciated!!
We packed, showered, socialised, ate and I skyped home which was lovely as everyone was together!!
The next day we packed got the bus again and the ferry and headed for our next bus north! Next stop was Cairns!! It was so strange that a boy I went to sixth form with jumped on our bus (Jamie Rose) it's a very small world.
We made it to cairns in 6 hours and got picked up by minibus and headed to nomads our hostel to check in. The hostel did $3 meals which Ed and I tucked into!! We headed to bed as travelling had taken it out on us. We had a chat with the travel agent about future plans but decided to book our next adventures when we reach New Zealand!!
The next day we got up early and got picked up for our cape tribulation bus where we travelled north along the coast to the Daintree river!! We spotted wild crocodiles and were told sharks also share the same waters!! I tried the local tea too which wasn't too shabby!! We had a guided tour through the worlds oldest rain forest which was interesting we learnt a lot about different plants and animals. For example the green ant has the equivalent of a lime in vitimin C, Ed licked it's bum to confirm it's citrus taste haha!! There were so many mozzies and we began to itch, we were shown a weed that when it's touched it plays dead- so clever!! We enjoyed lunch at a lodge in the forest and after had a walk along the beach! After the beach we headed to daintrees ice cream factory where we tucked into some yummy strange flavours! One of which is a fruit that tastes of chocolate!! We had a swim in a gorge protected by aboriginals and got to ask them lots of different questions about their tribes!!
I finally finished my wolf of Wall Street book on the way home and we stopped at a viewing point where we were shown where Steve Irwin died previously out at sea!! We had dinner at the hostel again and showered and spoke to a girl that had been to NZ she had nothing but good words we are super excited now!!
The next day we both got up early to skype home which was nice!! After breaky and getting ready we headed into the city for a wander around the shops and a dip in the gorgeous lagoon. We met our friends Aleesh and Tom from the Whitsundays again and headed to the night market to get a souvenir to remind us of Aus!! I chose a baby wombat and named it after the one I held :) we did the boardwalk and headed back to the hostel made dinner together and got talking to others in the hostel over a few drinks!!
We repacked our bags ready for our flight in a few days, showered and went to bed as we are up early again for the Great Barrier Reef trip!! In the night the fire alarm went off and we had to evacuate which was annoying so we were tired when we awoke!! I dropped my phone down 3 flights of stairs and smashed my screen which wasn't a good start to the day either haha!!
Our last full day in Australia and we headed to the Great Barrier Reef!! It was unfortunately very rainy and choppy. We were served amazing food throughout the day though and had an amazing time exploring various different reefs it was the ultimate experience to finish off Australia!! We saw lots of colourful fishes and a few sharks but unfortunately no turtles :(!! A lot of people went diving which looked so cool but I just don't think I would enjoy being so deep under water I would feel too restricted!!
The waters were fascinating. Ed and I held hands and snorkelled all day!! We got back on boat to head home and could not get warm everything was soaked, we played lots of games and fed the fish our leftovers which was cool to watch as they were so big some of them!! When we arrived back on land it was still raining hard and we had to run to our pick up bus!! We awaited the bus for ages and eventually made it back!! We enjoyed our last free dinner and got ready for our last night out. We met Tom and Aleesh and hit the town!! Everywhere shut early due to it being Anzac Day but we still had a brilliant night and we headed back for a quick kip before we had to wake up early again to head to the airport!!
We packed, showered, ate and headed to the airport! We waved goodbye to our home from home and boarded the plane!! We have enjoyed every minute and wouldn't change a thing! Once again we have met so many people that we will continue to contact once we leave!!
Australia it's been a pleasure!!
We were excited for our journey to New Zealand we have heard so many good things. We made ourselves comfy and enjoyed the on flight movies and food!! New Zealand here we come!!!
