The 12 hour flight from Auckland to San Francisco was filled with food, films and sleep, it went pretty quick!
After going through scary passport control we collected our bags and headed to baggage hold as we wanted to use our time in the city wisely and go and explore. We checked them in, freshened up and headed for the Bart train similar to our underground. We hopped off in the city and walked towards the pier. We wanted to have a tour of Alcatraz the famous prison on an island off the coast but unfortunately they were all sold out until Saturday!
We carried on walking and checked out pier 39 and fishermans wharf which was filled with souvenir shops, restaurants and bars.
We saw the sea lions on fishermans wharf which were huge some apparently almost 800lbs!! We were a little famished and enjoyed a subway and an extremely large should I say bucket of drink. It was far too big very overwhelming.
We then hiked our way to Lombard street which is similar to the one at home as it's set on a hill however this is extremely steep and known as the steepest in the world.
We then made our way to Union street and had a ponder around several shops. We visited famous stores like American Apparel and Pottery Barn. We then made our way back towards the coast to see the Golden Gate Bridge, it was stunning.
The paths were filled with runners and cyclists. It had been a beautiful day!! We watched several teams play kick ball and sat by the water. We made the long walk back towards pier 39 along the coast and watched a few swimmers and the sunset!! We could see the legend of Alcatraz in the distance!
We had another walk about the shops and decided to eat in at Bubba Gump's Shrimp (famous from Forest Gump)! We filled up on famous San Francisco chowder and tried a fried feast of shrimp yum yum!! We were stuffed and made a final walk around the bay before catching a famous tram to the station to travel back to the airport!!
It took us an hour in total to get back to the airport and we freshened up and made ourselves comfy for the evening. It was a peaceful night Ed caught a few winks but annoyingly I couldn't!!
At 5am we went to collect our bags which were late to arrive and checked in. We felt so tired and ready for a bed but unfortunately we had another 12 hours of travelling before we reached Lima. We had a 5 and a half hour flight to El Salvador, it was awful, there were no channels in English. The next flight was just as bad but we managed to watch something in English, thank god!! Another 5 hour flight and we were in Lima....time to rest!!
