Once we arrived in Airlie after the long journey we headed to the hostel and checked in and made ourselves something for breaky after visiting the local supermarket. We showered and Ed worked his magic and done some hand washing and we saw the two Canadian girls we met on Fraser. We called them over and said about meeting later for a drink and they told us the Danish couple were here too and were leaving tonight so we plan to have drinks to say farewell tonight.
Ed and I spent the day walking around the town, visiting the lagoon which was lovely and checked into our whitsundays tour and got our boarding tickets! When we got back we chilled out and then prepared and made dinner together, before getting ready to meet at the bar next door! After waving the Danish couple off Ed, Jo, Sydney and I went for gelato yum yum and then headed back to the hostel where I ran into another friend I made back down in Byron Bay- Neesh. So we all sat in her room with her roomies exchanging stories and headed to bed fairly early as we board out boat for the whitsundays tomorrow!!
Happy birthday Grandad! Today we awoke packed our things for our boat tour and waited by the pool in the scorching heat till we had to meet at the harbour to check in and board. Sydney and Jo our Fraser Island friends are also on our boat which is exciting! We boarded and started our sail to the Whitsunday Islands.
We got to know one another and had chance to raise the sails which was cool but a lot I hard work! We had a tour of the different islands one of which costs a fortune to live on. We were then served nachos and started on our goon (wine) bags!! We spent the evening talking in the moonlight and playing games. We were served a delicious satay chicken curry with rice and salad ans headed to bed under deck which was unbearably hot!!
We awoke extremely early because of the hear and headed to the largest of the islands. We got a smaller boat to shore and trekked to the viewing point on the island where we could see Whitehaven beach it was incredible, just like a postcard!!
We made our way down to the beach and had fun in our wet suits in the sea. We had to be especially careful not to get stung by the most dangerous jelly fish- ikanje!! We swam alongside reef sharks and stingrays it was amazing. The sand is 90% silicon so we were advised to exfoliate and brush our teeth- it worked!!! The day was beautiful and we sun bathed and enjoyed the glorious white beach before we had to head back. Once we were back on the boat we enjoyed lunch and then had a snorkel which was amazing swimming alongside humongous fish!! It was sad to see a lot of the coral had died. On the way to where we setting up for the night we spotted dolphins 2 pods happily hoping out the water, a memory I will not forget!!
The evening was gorgeous we watched a fantastic sunset before gazing at the stars and the milky way which was so unbelievably clear. We again had a few drinks and played a few silly games. I tried sleeping on the deck but I got scared of falling in haha, I headed to bed very late and Ed happily slept on the deck all night long!!
We had an early wake up and jumped off the boat to snorkel wearing our trusty wet suits. We enjoyed one of Australia's best snorkelling spots which was beautiful and colourful. Our friends had an underwater camera which captured the underworld amazingly!! We then headed back to the shore enjoying fresh fruit snacks and sunbathing. We had another go at sailing the boat !
We got back and showered for the first time in 3 days and sorted our bags out etc. We had a stroll around the town, caught up with washing and used wifi for a bit and I caught up with writing my diary! We checked out the free food shelf and ended up making a delicious dinner with everything to save some monies!!
We spent the evening packing and went for a walk with Jo and Sydney down to the lagoon and to see our whitsundays group at a bar but as it was bank holiday we were only allowed to drink with a meal which sucked!! We headed back as we had no monies and watched Frozen together before saying sad goodbyes and heading back to our room to fall asleep!!
The next morning we got up so early and headed to the transit centre with our massive bags which was a struggle at 6am we had another long bus ride this time our destination was Townsville!!
We arrived in Townsville and hopped on the hour ferry to Magnectoc island!! It was calm and once we arrived we got a public bus to our hostel the otherwise of the island. It was a long day of travelling but we had finally made it!!
