Arrived in Perth after a reasonable flight, although we only got about an hours sleep!! We got through customs with no problems, even my wonderful Marmite didn't get confiscated, yay! Pam met us at the airport in 'Where's Wally' colours which made finding her very easy as the rest of the arrivals lounge had failed to come in costume! We had a lovely drive back to Pam's house at dawn and pulled in at the local cemetery to see some kangaroos. It was very surreal seeing these sweet little creatures hopping amidst the grave markers at sunrise, but what a fantastic way to start our Aussie adventure?! We got back to Pam's and had bacon and egg butties (on brown bread, sorely missed in SG) and a cuppa tea.
After breakfast Pam took us for a drive to see the beach and a bit of the local area before the lack of sleep hit like a freight train and we headed back for some much needed kip! After a gorgeous lunch of chicken salad sandwiches (more much missed food) we went to find the Physio for Josh's appointment. I had a potter around the supermarket, which is such a mundane thing to do but also a complete voyage of discovery in a new country! Afterwards, we headed to the beach.
WOW!!!!
I have spent a lot of time on some stunning beaches; Porthcothan, Bois Plage, Calgary bay, Bedruthan to name just a few but I've never seen the sand so white, the sea so turquoise and so few people around. The sea was wonderfully warm and there was even an ice cream stand. For me, it really doesn't get any better! We spent a blissful couple of hours enjoying the sun, sea and sand and not really believing how lucky we are to be here!
We had a lovely dinner with Pam and chilled out with a cold beer feeling content and very at home (thanks Pam)! We're now going to sleep listening to the frogs croaking in the garden, and watching the world's most venomous spider sitting in the corner of the ceiling...
...it's ok though, it's a Daddy Longlegs and all he'll do is make sure the rest of the venomous spiders stay well away!
Tomorrow we're going to Caversham Wildlife Park to see lots more Aussie creatures! Looking forward to it!
