We arrived in Adelaide in mid afternoon where we were due to meet Rafe, Alex's cousin. Having had no response to our call I was keen to kill time at the Adelaide Oval particularly having found out the news that this was to be Adam Gilchrist final test match. We got in or free as I had hoped and with the compulsory beer sat down to watch the greatest batsman wicket-keeper play his last few hours. The highlight was in fact a slip catch by Matthew Hayden which was outstanding! Whilst the cricket of the afternoon meant little with a draw the only realistic outcome it was pretty nice to be part of the standing ovation for Adam Gilchrist at the end.
We the headed towards the beach - a suburb of Adelaide called Glenelg. A very impressive marina and a pretty nice beach. We then couldn't resist Fish and Chips on Brighton's seafront! The final night in Dunno (our Wicked van) was spent just round the corner from the Wicked office to maximise lie in time!!
In the morning we dropped off the van and had planned to get a bus into town but an Austrian chef was also dropping off his wicked van and was getting a taxi to the airport so managed to jump in with him so got the airport with hours to spare. To while away some of the time I browsed some magazine and Alex went to read her book. I thought she said she was going to the gate but when I arrived this didn't appear to be the case. I thought she may have just gone to the loo so waited at the gate. They then called our flight, no Alex, they then final called our flight, still no Alex! I went to the gate and said we were here but I did appear to have lost my girlfriend. In typical Aussy style she said no worries we'll just page her and another couple who were missing. This promoted the couple to appear but still no Alex! She then paged Alex again and after a few minutes I could see Alex sauntering down the Terminal. I am aware that Alex doesn't do rushing but I did think she may have walked a bit quicker! When she did arrive at the gate she was completely oblivious to the fact the flight had even been called! We made it however and boarded my first commercial propeller plane flight - a short hop of 20 minutes to Kangaroo Island.
