Noosa hates me. I thought I would love this place. Hiking, camping, beaches; everything I needed after staying in the city for almost a month.
So I get there and I am exhausted because I went out with friends in Brisbane the night before and basically didn't sleep before checking out of my hostel and jumping on the greyhound. I try to nap, but I I am in a sixteen person dorm and a group of ten swedes are hanging out in their beds. This is not that bad. Fast forward to the next morning where I wake early to go hiking.
The hike is actually quite nice, I have coffee and a bagel overlooking the ocean. I read my book a bit since I want to finish it before my camping trip the next morning. I get back and shower the dust off. While going through my clothes, I notice a bug. NO! I pull up the sheet and of course find bed bugs. Fighting the urge to cry I go to the front desk. To be fair they did everything they could. Moved my rooms, gave me money for laundry, moved out the matress, offered me whatever I want, though they did ask me not to panic the rest of the room by telling them which was awkward. I took everything to the laundry, washed on hot twice, sprayed the things that I couldn't wash like books and iPad, and spent my day moping. At that point I thought I only had a couple of bites mixed in with the ones left from mozzies at the sanctuary.
I pack up all my stuff and leave for camping on the noosa river. Starts out nice. It is self guided so they give 10 of us all the equipment and we canoe to the camp site and set up. Very pleasant despite getting a bit lost since the maps were horrid. The group was nice and we swam and had a nice first day. Sometime in the night it starts raining. Still no big deal, it looks like it could clear up. We spend some time rigging a canopy over the cooking area. Very like fort building. Then a couple of us canoe out to explore, since it looks like the beach idea is rained out. 10 minutes into being in the boats and an epic downpour starts. I am convinced my boat is going to sink. We head back and pull the canoes out of the water to prevent them taking on too much water. Since it looks like we won't be able to do much a couple of the girls and I go to a covered picnic area and play drinking games with goon. There was an epic rap whose video will not be posted but is hilarious. Upon checking on our tents, we find that three of them do not have the proper peices and the mismatched sizes of the equipment has allowed the tents to flood.
We realize that there is no way we will all be able to sleep dry so one of the girls call to see if we can leave early. Once we finally find reception we learn the boat that would get us from the rendezvous point cannot go out any more for the day. We are stuck. The group tries to sleep in the tents bundles 4 per tent with one of the guys trying to sleep at the picnic tables and one in his own wet tent. It gets dark at 6 so there is 12 hours of trying this. It is hot and stuffy and cramped. Two of the girls in my tent can't take if and go to the picnic tables. All of the tents take on water by the end of the night so I basically sleepy in a puddle. The second the sun comes out I am out and packing. It clears up long enough for us to pack, but pours again on our way in the canoes. I look like I have gone swimming. We all smell like sweat and wet mildewy dog. The next group meets us to take the canoes out and we try to warn them while still staying positive. One Canadian guy says "haven't you ever seen rain before?" Our whole group wants to punch him. The good thing about the trip is we all seem to have become friends through the trauma.
Now after a bus ride to Hervey Bay, I am COVERED in bug bites. It looks like I have the chicken pox. I assume they are from the bed bugs as when I looked online it said it could take up to a week for the bites to show, but one aussie said it looked like midgies. I washed my stuff again, but since I was camping, I wasn't even with my bags, they were stored. I have drenched myself in tea tree oil and seriously considered canceling my frasers island tour this morning and going to the doctor. The tour is three days. I got more creams, and if they don't start to heal by the time I get back I will find a doctor then, but I hope they go away because I am going sailing on the whitsundays. I really don't want to be miserable or look like I have the plague while there. All in all noosa has ruined me, I wish I never went.
