Today takes the cake for most uncomfortable train rides of my life. We left Paris this morning around 7:30. We got on our train that we didn't have seats for. How they can sell you tickets and not have anywhere for you to go is beyond me. I have never felt more like a stowaway. We hung out in the dining car for a bit and then tried to look for an open seat somewhere because standing for 7 hours wasn't going to cut it. We were not the only ones who had nowhere to sit either there were a ton of people with nowhere to go. We eventually found some foldout seats and got to sit a bit until a conductor kicked us out because apparently we weren't taking up space in the right car. So, we moved down a car to the one our ticket said it was literally filled head to toe with baggage and like 8 other people. We squeezed in and silently cursed this train until we arrived in Milano just in time to miss our next train to Venice. Huge bummer because we actually had seats on that train. We now had to take the next train which left an hour later but oh joy we now don't have seats. So we are currently sitting on our packs on the floor of some crappy train headed for the most romantic city in Italy. I'm not sure how that works but I just want to be there. I'm thinking it's going to be another wine night...
So we finally made it and Venice looks just like the pictures. The colors here are beautiful. It's like faded but colorful. It's also a lot warmer here than anywhere else we've been. We got to our hotel changed into something lighter and headed out to dinner. To be expected it was the best meal we've has so far. We started with some wine and bruschetta and I got gnocchi with cream sauce and mushrooms. It was soo good! Lisa got ravioli and thought the same thing. I think Italy is going to be good to us. After dinner, we walked around a bit snagged a bottle of wine and got some pastries for dessert later. Excited to start the day early tomorrow and maybe get some sun :)
Buona Notte!
