Yesterday was a bittersweet day. It started out well, got crappy, and then got a lot better. I'll start with the bad news first. We went to the train station to go book our tickets for Venice and found out that everything was booked. Everything. We couldn't use our rail passes which really made me mad and our only options were a night train the day after we needed it and a train early the 13th that we might not have a seat on which means standing or sitting on the floor for 9 hours! And did I mention both of these options cost over €100! I was not in a good place. We decided we didn't really have a choice and booked the train on the 13th. Oh and when he tried to run my cards neither of them worked (this seemed to be a trend this day because my train ticket stopped working and needed to be changed 3 separate times and my card to the hotel died as well) It seriously wasn't my day. Luckily Lisas worked and I now owe her money.
Anyways, moving on to the better part of the day. The weather was gorgeous. It was about 80 degrees and sunny all day. We started out by heading to the Arc de Triumph. It was huge! Very cool. After that, we decided we should get some lunch and went to this cute cafe ordered some wine, cheese, and pasta. It was! We went to the train station after that, got angry and then headed on to Notre Dame. Super pretty. The building was so intricate it was amazing. Unfortunately by the time we got in line for the top it was too late so we just had to admire it from afar.
Our next stop was the Eiffel Tower which I was quite excited about. The place was packed. We got some really good pictures and ate some really great ice cream :) we waited in line to take the elevator to the top but once again half way through waiting they closed the top and we decided it wasn't worth it to wait in line if we couldn't go all the way up. We headed to a market nearby and grabbed 2 bottles of wine and sat at the park next to the tower. It was beautiful and a great way to relax after a long day. We got to see the tower as the sun went down and around 10 the lights went on which was really cool. The whole tower was glittering and looked like a sparkler. Also, we were 2 bottles of wine in and thought it was pretty amazing haha Once again I took a ton of pictures and a couple videos so you can see the full effect :)
Around 11, we decided to try and find our way back to the hotel which took longer than it probably should have but we were having a good time.
In Europe they have this ridiculous thing where you have to pay money to use the bathrooms which I think is just ridiculous. So, since being here me and lis have made it our personal cause to boycott bathrooms that make you pay. Unfortunately, weakened by the wine, we broke our streak of refusing to pay to pee. We were upset but at that point we had no options haha
Today we woke up to rain which kind of delayed our plans for the last day in Paris. We headed towards the Louvre and did some souvenir shopping. We picked up some lunch at a nearby cafe which was delicious but made the mistake of getting a Coke that ended up costing me €8! There is something seriously wrong with this country. Anyways we made our way to the Louvre which is a pretty impressive building in itself. Unfortunately the building was all we saw because apparently the Louvre is closed on Tuesdays contrary to what the information at our hotel desk says. Just one of the many reasons this hotel stinks.
For the rest of this evening, we have to gather up all our stuff and pack up again because were heading out to Venice in the morning! Italy is our last country then we head back to Dublin for a night and then back to the states! 9 days left! It's going by fast!
Bonsoir!
