Day 20!
Today, I went to Stratford-upon-Avon, the hometown of William Shakespeare. My theatre class went to see Othello at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
First, the weather was absolutely perfect this day. We all wore dresses and were not cold once. (A first for this trip!) Our initial stop was at a butterfly farm. At first, I was unsure of spending my time here. I was in the city of Shakespeare. I felt I should be looking at that stuff rather than butterflies. To my surprise, I was wrong! It was absolutely stunning and an amazing experience. I took plenty of photos too. At one point, a butterfly landed on one of my fingers and looked like I was wearing a ring. I also had one ride my coat for a little while.
Afterwards, we walked in to the town which was filled with little restaurants and shops. We saw Shakespeare's birthplace, and I spent a little time walking through the gift shop and the local stores. We relaxed in front of a cafe for a while.
Then, we walked across town to the church where Shakespeare was buried. We couldn't go in due to a choral concert being held, but we did get to walk around the building and cemetery. We walked right along the river back towards the theatre. We walked in and took our seats.
We were the first audience to see this production of Othello, and WOW! It was spectacular! I have never read Othello, and now I want to go back and read it. The actors were amazing. The costumes were amazing. The set was amazing. I am very happy I went. It was truly an unforgettable experience.
